Service Description

This is aimed at people who have little or no experience with the countryside, yet want to explore a bit. From meeting at a pre agreed car park or start point. The first half hour will involve a brief introduction to walking in wilder country. A brief discussion on the following topics;- - footwear - waterproofs - clothing and layering systems - rucksacks and contents - what to expect when walking in open country (wildlife, terrain, weather) Then we heading out an a hour and half walk where there will be easy tutoring on the following; - introduction to maps, map symbols, grids and scales - basic navigation using the map to ground technique and basic compass work. - paths and tracks and the differences and uses - The Countryside Code - What to do in an emergency - Walking as a group - understanding dangers such as water crossings, road walking/crossing - Adverse weather Each participant will receive a leaflet with useful information about the topics above.
