Service Description
This is a half day session for those who wish to improve, brush up or learn more country walking skills. Starting from the prearranged car park meeting point. In a small group have a quick pre-walk check, checking on, - kit - route - weather and ground conditions - brief description of the route including any hazards - reminder of the Countryside Code We then leave the car park and head out on a walk. I will lead the navigation explaining what I am doing using different ways to navigate using a paper map, compass and digital map. I will cover various items such as;- - map orientation - map to ground navigating and basic direction finding -map features, contour lines, symbols, grids, grid references - route planning, hazards, timing, height gain -using a compass to navigate from basic bearings to more technical night or poor visibility navigation. You will get a chance to lead a leg to help build your confidence and put your skills to the test. By the end of the session you should have a better understanding of navigating using the traditional tools, a map and compass, and should be more confident in finding your way around the wilder parts of the UK and hopefully opening up new possibilities. Maps and compasses provided for the session. CANCELLATION POLICY: If you are unable to attend your course, please notify us as soon as possible. A full 100% refund will be given up to 5 days before the course start date. A 50% refund will be given between 24 hours to 5 days before the course start date. No refund will be given with less than 24 hours notice. No refunds will be given due to weather conditions unless there is an Amber or Red weather warning in place. Walks will take place in all weather unless as stated above.
